Centre gives 7-day deadline to social media platforms to address deepfakes

The current IT rule mandates the removal of 12 types of content within 24 hours of receiving user complaints, says IT Minister. In order to address the spread of deepfakes on social media platforms, the Centre on Friday gave them a seven-day deadline to modify their policies in accordance with Indian regulations.
